Spravato Treatment at Ease Psychiatry

A New Option for Treatment-Resistant Depression

Spravato® (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray FDA-approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression or certain severe depressive episodes. At Ease Psychiatry, we offer Spravato® as part of a structured, medically supervised treatment plan alongside traditional antidepressants.

This treatment is designed for individuals who have not found relief from standard antidepressant therapies and are seeking an alternative approach.

How Spravato® Works

Unlike typical antidepressants, which target serotonin or norepinephrine, Spravato® works through glutamate pathways in the brain, offering a different mechanism of action. Spravato® is administered in-clinic under supervision to ensure safety and effectiveness. It is not a take-home medication.

Who Can Benefit

Spravato® may be appropriate for adults who:

  • Have a diagnosis of major depressive disorder

  • Have tried two or more antidepressants without adequate improvement

  • Continue to experience significant depressive symptoms

  • Can attend in-clinic treatment sessions and follow monitoring guidelines

Spravato® is not suitable for everyone, including individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain heart or neurological conditions, pregnancy, or active substance use concerns. A consultation with our providers determines eligibility.

What to Expect

  1. Consultation – A confidential review of your symptoms, medical history, and prior treatments.

  2. In-Clinic Administration – Self-administration under supervision in a comfortable, private setting. Blood pressure and overall well-being are monitored during treatment.

  3. Ongoing Care – Follow-up sessions are scheduled based on your response, with adjustments as needed for optimal results. A driver is required after each session due to temporary sedation effects.

Typical Schedule

  • Weeks 1–4: Twice weekly sessions

  • Weeks 5–8: Weekly sessions

  • Maintenance: Every 1–2 weeks, tailored individually

Safety and Monitoring

Spravato® is part of a restricted safety program (REMS) due to possible temporary side effects, including dizziness, nausea, sedation, dissociation, or increased blood pressure. All patients are closely monitored during and after treatment to ensure safety.

Insurance & Payment

Many major insurance plans cover Spravato® for qualifying patients. Our team assists with insurance verification, prior authorization, and cost explanations.
